auditorium

academic PROJECT | 2009

In the middle of a historic district of Lisbon, and connected to the gardens of a seventeenth-century palace, exists a site now occupied by old industrial warehouses, but for which it’s necessary to find a new use.

The area is surrounded by different buildings in the middle of a block, and  links with different parts of the city. The space takes it’s centrality and becomes permeable, you can cross it at any time. It’s a public space, a void, a garden, a square.

Through their “streets” appear three separate volumes, with independent use. A cafe, a gallery and an auditorium. A central square and green, also serves as an outside auditorium. On the upper level, the coverage of the three volumes extends from the garden of the Palace. Cutting the horizontality of the entire space, and overlooking the city, protrudes the scenic tower, and from this top, we can see once again the city and the river.
